ST. ANDREW'S NIGHT
SPECIAL SOCIAL EVENING A special St. Andrew's Night social, organised by the St. Andrew's Society in Auckland, was held in the Town Hall concert chamber on Saturday night. A past president, Mr.' .J. Howie, who presided, was piped in by the Auckland District Highland. Pipe Band. An address was given by the Rev, Ferguson Fish, who spokg on "If T Went Back to Scotland." He dealt briefly with historic spots and famous personalities of Edinburgh and the border. A one-act comedy, "A Little Bit of Life," by a local author. Gwynne I. Peacocke, which won a British Drama League prize this- year, was presented bv Mesdames Booth. Osborne and Howie,' and Mr. C. M. Rattray, the producer being Ann Manning. The pipe band played during the evening, while other items were a song by Mrs. E. Richards, humorous duets by Messrs. G. G. Spicer and A. Dollar, elocutionary selections by Mrs. G. Howison, of Edinburgh; concertina solos by Mr. A. Emerson: and humorous sqlos by Mr. Dollar. The accompanists -\tere Mrs. J. Howie and Mrs. A. Dollar. Dancing and supper'followed. Members of the society, together with representatives of the Gaelic Club, attended St.. David's Presbyterian Church, "Khvber Pass, last night. Pipe bands played outside the church before the service, which was conducted by the Rev. W. Bower Black.
