LONDON MARKET QUIET NEW ZEALAND AT 72/- TO 75/CHEESE ALSO SLOWER A slightly easier tone has developed in the London market for butter. Quotations for New Zealand finest range from 72s to 75s per cut., while Danish is worth from Ills to 117s. The market is quiet. Stockd of New Zealand butter in London increased over the week by 271 tons to 5129 tons, which compares with 2000 tons at the same time last year. A slight decrease is shown in Australian stocks, which amount to 2576 tons. , The market for cheese is also quiet with values a shade easier. (74s to 765); unsalted, 74s to 76s to 78s (76s to 78s). Deliveries: New Zealand, 1703 tons (last year, 1638 tons); in store, 5429 tons (last year, 2600 tons). Australian, salted, 72s to 74s (74s to 755); unsalted, 74s to 75s to 76s (75s to 765), Deliveries: Australian, 1298 tons (last year, 1062 tons); in store, 2576 tons (last year, 590 tons). LIGHT BUTTER BOXES COMPLAINT FROM BRISTOL OLD STYLE OF PACKING URGED [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Saturday At the quarterly meeting of the national council of the Federation of Grocers' Associations of tho United Kingdom tho question of tho typo of butter-box used by New Zealand producers was discussed and tho following motion was proposed by Mr. E. F. Gillctt, on behalf of tho Bristol Association: —"That packers of butter be asked to revert to the use of tho heavy typo of box, as it is found in Bristol that buttor delivered in light boxes is in a less good condition than when packed in the heavier and more substantially constructed box." Mr. Gillett said it had been found in Bristol that the boxes in which buttcr was coming from Now Zealand were a positive curse. Discolouration was caused, and the buttor did not seem to be so fresh as formerly. He would like the federation to ask tho New Zealand Dairy Board if it could not see its way to rovcrt to tho old stylo of packing butter in heavy boxes. The motion was referred to tho Parliamentary committee. , When the subject of the complaint was referred to Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager of tho Now Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, ho described the statements as eyewash."
