GUARDING THE KING

DOMINIONS REGIMENT SERVICE LEAGUE'S PROPOSAL The formation of a Dominions regiment in the Brigade of Guards, whose duty it is to guard the person of the King, was recommended at the biennial conference of the British Empire Service League, which has been held in Melbourne.' Mr. G. W. Holland (Australia) moved: —That this conference considers that the Dominions of tbo British Empire should be represented among the regiments forming the Brigade of Guards, whose duty it is to guard the person of His Majesty, and asks that suitable representations be made to obtain the creation of a Guards regiment to consist of companies and/or platoons from each Dominion. Mr. Holland said there had been eome minor incidents between various parts of the Empire. Comment on the recent Lancashire boycott had been the outcome of a recent cricket dispute. A voice: Rubbish 1 Mr. Holland said there was no doubt comment had been coloured by the bitter attack of various people on cricket. It was impossible for many people to differentiate between one subject and the other. The proposal, if adopted, would help to , overcome these situations. Sir Andrew Russell (New Zealand) • That would be more likely if it were Nottinghamshire, and not Lancashire. (Laughter.) The duty and responsibility of caring for the King should not be left to one part of the Empire and, although there are grave difficulties in the .proposal, I hope it will be endorsed. ■ The motion was carried. The conference also decided to ask the British Government, in consultation with the Dominions Governments, to provide machinery to permit the enlistment of a quota .' of men from the Dominions in His Majesty's Imperial Forces.
