COLONEL HUGH STEWART
MEMORIAL SERVICE NOTTINGHAM'S FINE TRIBUTE A tribute that was surprising in the case of a man who had lived in the city for only four years, was paid to Colonel Hugh Stewart, principal of Nottingham University College, at the memorial service held in St. Mary's Church last month. - The attendance was probably the. largest, and was certainly the most representative, that had been seen on such an occasion in Nottingham for some years, and showed, as nothing else could have done, the deep impression that Colonel Stewart's work and personality had made on ' the . city and ! district; Educationists composed only a'minority of the great congregation>> and every department of public life was represented at the simple* but impressive service... .. ; . . , Colonel Stewart died on September 22 while on' his way home fi;om a visitto' New : Zealand. '' No one; suspected that his health was not- perfect,- and the news of his -death caused a profound shock. . ' 1 ;;, -■'
