WOMEN'S DIVISION

Karaka. The president, Mrs. Higham, welcomed a senior member, Mrs. Hodgson, to the meeting and offered congratulations to her on her recovery from a long illness. A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. Sim was recorded. A very useful parcel of clothing made by Mrs. Slack and helpers was received for distribution to needy cases. Prizes were promised for the best collection of vegetables to be shown at a future meeting. The competition was for the heaviest yield of potatoes grown from one potato. This was won by Mrs. Wright, with Mrs. Wood second. The treasurer reported that the flower show recently held by the branch had been a financial success. Miss Colquhoun gave a pianoforte solo and members joined in community singing. Hostesses were Mesdames Bolton, Crow and Schooler, and Misses Bolton and Wright. Ptikekawa. —The fourth birthday of the branch was celebrated in the Pukekawa Hall on AVednesday when members from numerous branches and visitors from other societies were entertained. Mrs, M. G. Orr, president, welcomed the guests, and Mrs. Noel Adams gave a short address on the work of the organisation. A Scotch reel was danced by Misses Y. and J. Henderson, M. Liddle and J. Bead. The members of the junior branch gave a one-act play, entitled, "A Full-blown Rose," and also an exhibition of country dancing. A sketch given by members, entitled, "Radio Reception," was much enjoyed. Mrs. A. Crawford, of Onewhero, sang two solos. The musical competition was won by Mrs. Crawford. Some beautiful pieces of handwork done by the members was on exhibition. Afternoon tea was served and a* birthday cake, on which were four candles, was cut.
