DRINKING AT DANCES

Sir, —A statement contained in the Herald qf November 15, relative to the discussion which took place at the County Council meeting is contrary to fact. The Councillor mentioned stated that he had heard that at a dance held in an outback district a girl of 14 years of age was drunk, but qualified it by stating that he was not present at the dance. The reported remarks of a councillor regarding a recent hospital dance are incorrect. The latter remarks were made by the chairman of the hospital board, who is also a member of the county council. He stated that permission was given to hold the dance at the hospital provided no liquor was taken on the premises. He also remarked that he had hoped to attend the dance, but as he had an attack of influenza he was unable to be present, but he understood that everything went all right and that it was a wellconducted dance. R. B. Rx t ssei/l. Hokianga, County Manager.
