WELLINGTON'S TUNNEL

SAVING TO PUBLIC A report regarding the Mount Victoria traffic tunnel in Wellington by tho city engineer, Mr. G. A. Hart, states that during the year ended March 31 last between 1,100,000 and 1,500,000 vehicles used the tunnel, which it was estimated represented. a saving to the public of about £14,000. "A traffic tally during rush hours has been taken," says tho report, " and it is found that throughout the day tho number .of vehicles passing through varies from 3 to 8.9 a minute. Rush hours occur from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., 12.15 p.m. to 1.15 p.m., and from 5 p.m. till 6 p.m. After 6 p.m. truck traffic ceases and minor rushes occur at 7.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. On Saturday minor rushes also occur at 10 a.m. and 2.30 p.m."
