TWO YOUNG SISTERS > • ■ I ill EFFORT TO SAVE ANOTHER CAUGHT IN RIVER CURRENT vf ACCIDENT AT LOWER HUTT ; i [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] "V ELLINGTON, Sunday / Two girls were drowned in the Hutt River near the Moiling Bridge, Lower Hutt, at 4.30 o'clock this afternoon. J The victims, who were sisters, were:— Betty Isabella Simmis, aged 16. . Enid Thelma Simmis, aged 14. It is believed that the girls lost their • lives in trying to rescue their younger sister, who had got into difficulties while bathing. Apparently the" youngest girl was carried out of her depth, and her sisters, although able to swim only a little, immediately went out after her. She was saved with the assistance of another girl who was not with the party. In the meantime the. two elder sisters were caught by the current and swept into the middle of the river, and drowned. Both bodies were recovered.
