Saturday There was an excellent attendance at the Carterton Racing Club's annual meeting on the Clareville course today. The weather was glorious and the track was in splendid order. INCREASE IN PRIZE-MONEY ROTORUA AND MATAMATA The Rotorua Racing Club has fixed the prize-money for its annual meeting, to be held on February 9 and 11, at £1750, an increase of £260 compared with last year. .The Mokoia Handicap, 7 fur 80yds, open, the third race on the first day, has been replaced by a hack event with, a sweepstake. The Ohinemutu Hack Cwp, the third rrice on the second day, will carry a sweepAn increase in stakes of £SO, making the total £795, lias been decided upon by the Matamata Racing Club for its meoting ox» February 2. The total includes a canteen of cutlery for the owner of the -winner of 'the Matamata Hack Cup. The five races under £IOO in value have been increased I by £lO each. TROTTING MEETING TO LAPSE HAWKE'S BAY DECISION [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HASTINGS. Saturday At a special meeting of the Hawke's Bay Trotting Club yesterday, it was unanimously decided to go into recess for 12 months, the reason being that there are not sufficient horses in this district to run a race meeting without a financial loss. The club's permit for tlio two days will bo allotted by the Trotting Conference to clubs in other districts.
