NEW KAWHIA CHURCH
METHODIST CELEBRATION CEREMONY BY MAORI KING [from our owx correspondent] K.VWHIA, Sunday Everything is in readiness for the laying of the foundation-stone of the Kawhia Memorial Church on Saturday. The church is being erected to commemorate the centenary of the landing of the first Methodist missioner in Kawhia, and a large gathering of natives and pakehas from all over the province is expected for the event. The section, which is one of the most prominent sites in the town, has been prepared by free labour supplied by young natives. The Maori "King" will lay the foun-dation-stone, using for the ceremony the " Bible that has been used at the crowning of all the Maori "Kings." A number of visiting clergymen, including Mr. A. J. Seamer, geneial superintendent of the New Zealand Methodist Mission, will be present. Arrangements have been, made for billeting a number of visitors, while provision is being made for housing the rest of the large assemblage under canvas. Aeroplanes from Auckland are expected to land on the pipi beds in the harbour when the tide suits during the day.
