STEWART ISLAND FLORA

THE WHITE CLEMATIS The flowering of the beautiful white clematis at Stewart Island has been remarkable for its profusion this season. Everywhere one sees patches of white on small shrubs and up to the tops of tho giant rimus, where it hangs in graceful white billowy masses. Even young plants a few feet high have one or two immature blossoms, and along the Ohekia River the flowers are on the river banks, some touching the water. The rata, too, is quite out of its stride, and patches of flowers are appearing in many places. JRata usually makes its appearance late in December, and from present indications it will be a wonderful year for blossom.
