CENTENARY TOURNEY i PLAY BEGINS TO-DAY ' THE OPEN 'CHAMPIONSHIP REMAINDER OF PROGRAMME By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Received November 14, 10.45 ip.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 14 The greatest golf meeting ever held in the Southern Hemisphere—the Centenary championship tournament —will be opened to-morrow. The 130 entries include 11 United States professionals, five British amateurs, five New Zealanders (one ama.teur and four professionals). There will be £3OOO in prize money for the professionals and trophies for the amateurs. A sum of £IOOO goes to the first professional. * The first three days will be occupied by the open championship, stroke play over 72 holes. The amateur championship will be begun on Monday and the professional championship next Wednesday.

The American contingent is expected to provide the most interesting golf ever seen in Australia. Gene Sarazen, J. H. Kirkwood, J. Ezef, J. Thompson and R. Smith came independently of Paul Runyan, Densmore Shute, Craig Wood, Leo Diegel, Harry Cooper and Ky Laffoon, the official team representing the TJnited States Professional Golfers' Association.

The five British amateurs are the Hon. Michael Scott, J. McLean, L, G. Garnett, T. H. Bourn and J. BeaumontPease.

The New Zealanders are: J. Shelley (amateur) and G. Watt, N. H. Fuller, John Lambie and A. J'. Shaw (professionals) .
