AIRMAN'S SON
BREACH OF TRAFFIC LAWS LENIENCY OF MAGISTRATE Coincident with the transtasman flight of the Auckland airman, Captain J. D. Hewett, his son, James D. Hewett, appeared beforo Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, to answer a traffic prosecution. The offence, which was admitted, was failing to stop his motor-car at the back of a tramcar in Wellesley Street East in October.
Inspector Edwards said there were children in the vicinity at the time, but they were not endangered as a result of the young man's breach of tho regulations. "The young man explained that he was thinking at the time of his father, who was flying in the Centenary air race," added the inspector. The Magistrate: Flying in the air race? Is that right? Defendant said his father was a competitor.
"Oh, well, you will be convicted and discharged," said the magistrate.
