POPULATION GAIN
AUSTRALIAN MIGRATION • , IMPROVEMENT IN FIGURES ■ A permanent gain to Australia's population' from recent immigration is shown by figures made available last week by the Commonwealth Statistician ,(Mr. E. T. McPhee). In the quarter' ended September 30 this year, 2569 immigrants who arrived intended to reside permanently in Australia, and 2430 Australian residents departed permanently, showing a gain to the permanent population of 139 persons. In the corresponding quarter of 1933, there was a loss to the popula.ijion of 388 persons. , .During the nine months ended September 30, 1934, 7942 arrivals intended to reside permanently in Australia, and there were 9694' permanent departures, showing a permanent loss of 1752 persons. During thq corresponding period of 1933 there was a. loss of 2223 persons.
