CZECH DELEGATE ARRIVES NOT ALLOWED TO LAND :■ . t . . •- (Received November 8, 5.5 p.m.) PERTH, Nov. 8 Customs oncers refused to allow, a passenger by the Strathaird, Egon Edwin Kisch, an author and journalist, to land at Fremantle. Kisch, who is a Czecho-Slovakian, had arranged a lecture tour of Australia and had intended to represent the International Committee Against War and Fascism at the Congress Against War to be held in Melbourne orj!' Saturday. A message from Melbourne states that the Federal Attorney-General, Mr. R. G. Menzies, replying to critics regarding the refusal to allow Kisch to land, said the Commonwealth Govern-
went felt itself under no obligation to --- admit persons of this type. Kisch was excluded from Britain because of his •übversive l/iews and his association with' Communistic organisations. Mr. Menzies also made pointed observations regarding the case of J. Griffin, New Zealand delegate to the Congress War, who was prevented from fending at Sydney. , Professor Walter Murdoch, of Perth.commenting on the case of Kisch, said Australia had disgraced herself by exeluding an author of international repute. /Kisch was merely coming here as &n anti-militarist. Professor Betasley said it was a sorry compliment to the intelligence of the Australian people that they were not trusted to think for themselves.
