CENTENARY SPECTACLE

BRILLIANT MELBOURNE BALL VISITING NEW ZEALANDERS MELBOURNE. Nov. 6 One of the most brilliant events in the Centenary celebrations was the Lord Mayor's ball 'last night. The Melbourne Town Hall was transformed into a bushland scene, with trees, ferns and a running brook cascading over a boulderstrewn course. The illusion was complete even to bush tracks winding among shady glades. The Duke of Gloucester attended and expressed his admiration at the ingenuity of the decorations. New Zcalanders present included Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P. for Avon, and the visiting Mayors of New Zealand cities.

Among the visitors who arrived by the Monowai were General Sir Alexander Godley and General Sir Andrew Russell, who were welcomed by war comrades. They will take part in the military events connected with the Centenary.
