OBITUARY
GENERAL SIR H. WALKER NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATIONS (Received November G. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 6 The death has occurred of Lieuten-ant-General Sir Harold Bridgwood Walker, who temporarily commanded the New Zealand Brigade at the Gallipoli landing and succeeded General Bridges in command of the first Australian division at Gallipoli, and afterward in Flanders.
General Sir Harold Walker, who was 72 vears of age, was the son of the Rev. J. H. Walker, vicar of Dilhorne, Staffordshire. Educated at Shrewsbury and Jesus College, Cambridge, he joined the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry from the Militia. He served in the Sudan and on the North-West Frontier of India, and in the South African W T ar commanded the 4th Regiment of Mounted Infantry, and was awarded the D.S.O. In the Great War, when he was twice wounded, after holding divisional commands, Sir Harold was General Officer Commanding in Chief of the British Force in Italy in 1919. In 1924 he was appointed General Officer Commanding in' Chief, Southern Command, India. He was created a K.C.B. in 1918 and E.C.M.G. in 1919. He retired in 1928.
