PEACH BLOSSOM FAIR
FUNCTION AT MOUNT ALBERT A "poach blossom" fair, the first organised conjointly by thn ladies' guilds of St. Luke's and St. Margaret's churches, Mount Albert, was opened in King Georgo's Hall yesterday afternoon by Mrs. 10. H. B. Milsom. Mrs. Milsom'was introduced by the Kev. K. (J. Cantos, vicar of St. Luke s, who praised her indefatigable work tor philanthropic objects. As instances of her enthusiasm, lie referred to her association with the Girls' Friendly Society and with the Mission to Seamen. Prior to declaring the fair open, Mrs. Milsom congratulated the guilds on the wide variety of goods displayed, and expressed tho hope that the function would be successful. From the outset there was brisk buying. and a member of tho committee soid that as the fair would be contiued until to-night, it was confidently anticipated that everything (would be sold. All stalls wero well stocked, tho guilds having been assisted by donations from a number of firms and parishioners. Interest is being enlivened by competitions, notably by one for a complete Christmas dinner, the buyer of each ticket being required to estimate the correct length of a piece of string stuffed in a bottle. A unique stall was one where cakes were being baked in three gas ovens, The cakes had a ready Stalls were in the charge of the fallowing ladies:—-Produce, Mesdamcs H H. Whit more and A. Atkinson; cakes, Mrs. W Weaver; fnncv, Mrs. W. Come; flowers, Mrs. F. ' J. Keatley; plain floods, "Mrs. TT, McNaughton; sweets, Mrs. K. W. Walsh; novelty. Mrs. Brooke-Smith; bran din, Mrs. I. M. Coles; tearooms, Mrs. Bennett.
