AVOIDING FLOODING

« IMPROVEMENT TO ROAD Construction work in connection with the improvement of a length of highway subject to flooding conditions at Whakapara, about 14| miles north of Whangarei, was commenced yesterday, according to advice received by the Automobile Association. During the past winter this road was frequently rendered impassable for motor traffic, on one occasion being submerged by as much as 10ft. of water. The raising of the roadway above flood level will provide anuother important link in the provision of an all-weather route between Whangarei and Kaitaia.
