NEW SWIMMING BATHS
PROPOSAL AT TAUPO WATER FROM HOT SPRING The erection of a bath house in Taupo. to accommodate a tepid swimming pool and six curative private baths, is planned by the Taupo Domain Board. The water for the new baths will be brought from the Kathleen spring. At present this spring feeds the Kathleen bath at the spa, about one arid a-half miles from Taupo. The. schemo will cost between £4OOO and £SOOO, and will be subject to the approval of the Local Bodies Loans Board.
The board has entered into an arrangement with the lessee of the A.C. spa to take half the supply of hot water from the Kathleen spring, which nature has brought to a temperature of 130 degrees. As the proposed bath house will be practically alongside the motor camp, it .will be passed by practically everyone holiday-making in the township, and by motorists just staying a few hours.
Provided the Local Bodies Loans Board approves the scheme, the work will proceed in the near future. The swimming pool will measure />sft. by 40ft., and "will be surrounded by a wooden fence 9ft. high. The bath house will be built in wood and iron, and its front windows will look out on to the main street of Taupo. The hot water from the Kathleen spring, which is about two miles from the township, will in all probability be brought down through a large wooden fiuming to the domain, and the board anticipates thaf its revenue will be greatly increased as the result of providing both curative and swimming baths right in the heart of Taupo.
