WARSHIPS' MOVEMENTS
LABURNUM SAILS TO-DAY VisiT TO SOUTHERN PORTS NEW SLOOP DUE NEXT WEEK After undergoing overhaul and refit since returning from her Island cruise on October 4 H.M.S. Laburnum will leave on a cruise to southern ports at one o clock this afteinoon. The warship will he at Tauranea from to-morrow* until November 12. at Picton from November 15, to November 21, at Wanganui from November 22 to November 26, at Nelson from November 27 to December 4. at New Plymouth from December 4 to December 14, at Wellington from December 15 to Januarv 5: at Gisborne from January 7 to January 14. She will return to Auckland on January 15. This will be the Laburnum's las* cruise in New Zealand waters, for after her return to Auckland she will prepare for her voyage to England, where she will probably be broken up. Her place on the New Zealand station will be taken by the new war sloop Wellington, which was launched at Devonport. England, on March 29. The new war sloop Leith, which is en route from England to New Zealand, via Suez and Australia, to replace H.M.S. Veronica on the New Zealand station, was due at Brisbane yesterday. Erom Brisbane she proceeds to Auckland, where she is due about November 14.
The cruisers Dunedin and Diomede. which have been representing New Zealand at the Melbourne Centenary, are to leave Melbourne for New Zealand on Wednesday. The Dunedin will go to Dunedin, where she will be from November 12 to November 17, and the Diomede will be at Lyttelton during the same period. Both cruisers will return to Auckland on November 20. when they will grant early Christmas leave to one watch of the ratings in preparation for the Duke of Gloucester s visit to New Zealand. Early in the new year the Dunedin will withdraw for refit at the Devonport naval base. STAY AT TAURANOA ENTERTAINMENTS ARRANGED [bv telegraph —ow.v correspondent] TAURAXGA, Saturday H.M.S. Laburnum is due to arrive at Tauranga next Tuesday and remain in port until November 12. Local bodies have arranged a programme for the entertainment of the ship s officers and company during their stay. The arrangements include cricket and I ifle shooting matches, visits to -Te Puke, the citrus company's factory and citrus orchards, and a fishing trip to Lake Rotoiti.
