TWO OFFENDERS FINED BENCH'S SEVERE COMMENT An Englishman pays for what he has and what ho does not pay for he cannot have. This dictum was addressed by Alderman Sir George Collins, a London magistrate, to Florence Eng--1 under and Pierre Krauze, both of Brondesbury, who pleaded guilty to travelling on a railway in first-class carriages with intent to avoid payment of thoir fares.
It was stated that a travelling inJ spector got into a first-class compartment at Finchley Road Station, saw j the two people and asked them for their I tickets. They produced third-class j tickets and were "excessed." At Baker i Street they alighted and got into ! another train travelling on to Moori*gate in a first-class carriage. They offered no excess fare on the termination of tlicir journey. Two days later they were again kept under observation and travelled first class e from Finchley to Baker Street, and on from Baker Street to Moorgate. The magistrate: I regard this bilking on the railways as most serious and I am going to teach you a lesson you will not quickly forget. Krauze will be fined £3 and 21s costs, and Miss Englander £2 and 21s costs.
