SIX WICKETS TO McCOY j Conditions were ideal at the Devonport j Domain for the meeting of Parnell nnd j Y.M.C.A. In spito of poor fielding by Par- | nell, a very mediocre batting display was j given by Y.M.C.A.. 90 runs taking just 1 over two hours, thb total of 140 occupying J threo hoars. Poor backing up and running between the wickets cost at least 20 runs. T. Lyon gave a sound display for Y.M.C.A., while McCoy's and Goodsir's bowling was the feature of the Parnell attack. Y.M.C.A.'s fielding was keen. Parnell lost three wickets for 57, and the second day's play should be interesting. Elliott and Sutherland opened for Y.M.C.A. to the bowling of Goodair and McCoy. Sutherland did not last Jong, falling a victim to McCoy. Cooper and Elliott were very cautious, and with the score at 2G. Elliott, who had been subdued in scoring singles only, hit one into the Bafe hands of Anthony. Frater livened the play, and Cooper drove McCoy for the first four of the match. Frater was aggressive and lifted a beautiful six followed by a pull to leg for four. In stepping across to repeat the shot he miitsed, and was out leg-before. Threo wickets being down for 47 runs. Hook and Cooper held out the attack until the latter was beaten by Goodsir after a sound display for 32. T. Lyon was the newcomer and attacked the bowling, but lost Hook from a mishit. M. Lvon scored only one, as did Simpson, McCoy claiming both wickets, Scott hit out for a merry 14 before Goodsir got his middle stump as ho attempted a big hit. Stowell failed to score and H. Lyon held his wicket up for a lastwicket partnership of 25, T. Lyon being clean bowled for 39. Goodsir. four for 57, obtained pace off the wicket, while* McCoy, six for 61. howled very well, flighting and turning the ball to advantage. Pnrnell opened its innings at 5 p.m. with Whitelaw and Hny. The pair carried on j steadily until, with his total at 23. White- j lnw snicked on© to Elliott of! H.
