TWENTY-NINE BULLOCKS
FEAST IN MELBOURNE ANIMALS TO BE ROASTED
Boast wombat, kangaroo-tail soup and roast venison are some of the additional delicacies to be provided at the giant barbecue at Laverton, November 10, when 20 bullocks will be roasted on spits. This function, which is being organised on behalf of the Lord Mayor's Fund, and the Royal Australian Air Force Benefit Funds, will be the largest of its kind in the world, and it is expected that the roasting will have to start at midnight on the night before the barbecue, in order to have the delicacies ready when "Cook-house" sounds at 6 p.m. on the Saturday.
The kangaroo tails have been promised from the big kangaroo hunt that was to be held at Deniliquin at the end of October in honour of the Duke's visit to the Riverina, while the venison and wombat will be provided by Mr. Rhodes, a well-known Melbourne business man. Sir MacPherson Robertson will carve the first bullock. In the afternoon the driverless car, which is controlled by radio by Captain Lynch, of New York, will be driven from an Air Force Wapiti aeroplane flying at least 500 ft. up, and will start, stop, turn and even sound its horn at the will of the operator in the air.
Sir MacPherson Robertson lias presented a fur coat, valued at 350 guineas, to the Lord Mayor's Fund, and this will be raffled on the ground at the barbecue. Other attractions will be old-time and modern dancing, special floors being laid down; a spectacular fireworks display, and thrilling night flying stunts by Air Force machines.
