SERVICE TO METHODISM
65 YEARS A TEACHER At the annual prize-giving of the Henderson Methodist Sunday School a presentation of an illuminated address was made to Mr. J. G. Piatt, a former superintendent of tho Sunday school for over 30 years. He was also presented with the Diploma of Honour of the National Sunday School Union, London, awarded for service in Sunday school work during a period of 65 years.
Mr, Piatt commenced Sunday school teaching in Cheshire, England, at the age of 12 years. He later resided in Bnlkeley, where he taught reading and writing to farm hands who attended the Sunday school. In 1879 he came to New Zealand and after working in the Methodist Sunday School in Vincent Street ho took part in founding the Sunday school at Henderson. About five years later ho was appointed superintendent, and he continued in this capacity until the time of his retirement last May.
