Nov. 1 The journal Aeroplane gives prominence to the performance of Squadronleader M. C. McGregor and Mr. H. 0, Walker, of New Zealand, in the Centenary air race. It states: « Without detracting from the splenfeat of Messrs. Scott and Black, the flight of- the New Zealand airmen for sheer pluck, perseverance, endurance and skilful piloting is unsurpassed in the history of British aviation. "Messrs. McGregor and Walker deierre to be regarded as the heroes of the race. They knocked 30 per cent off the record for light aeroplanes in spite of the open cockpits in the machine and the necessity for frequent landings." /' The Miles Hawk aeroplane flown in the Centenary air race by Squadronleader M.-C. McGregor and Mr. H. C. Walker, o£ Manawatu, is not expected to be shipped by the Wanganella, which is to leave Sydney to-day, as was formerly intended. According to advice received from the fliers the machine is undergoing an overhaul at Melbourne. Probably it will be flown to Sydiiey in time to be shipped by the Niagara, which is to sail from -that port on Thursday, and is due at Auckland on November 12. JONES AND WALLER BAD WEATHER IN ITALY RETURN 'FLIGHT DELAYED (Received November 2, 7.5 p.m.) ATHENS. Nov. 2 After leaving Athens for London at 5.20 a.m. yesterday, Lieutenant 0. Cathcart-Jones and Mr. K. Waller, who are returning to England after taking part in the Centenary air race, were forced to return because bad weather tras reported over Italy. On returning they landed at Tatoi, near Athens. Lieutenant Jones says they flew sometimes at a height of 15,000 ft. in the worst weather they had ever encountered. They changed their course fruitlessly in attempting to avoid storms and lightning but. in the end were forced to return. SCOTT AND BLACK FILM OF THE FLIGHT CONTRACT ACCEPTED (Received November 2, 6.15 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 1 The Daily Herald states than an American film producer who is in England at present says Messrs. Scott and Black, winners of the Centenary air r ßoe, have agreed to terms to make a film of the great flight embodying " a J^ce- for life." The fil misto be made London.
