THE BUTTER MARKET
Sir. —''Co-operative" claims because last week's sales of New Zealand butter show an increase, compared with the corresponding week last year, that there is not the slightest evidence that buyers are neglecting New Zealand butter because of the f.o.b. restrictions. At this moment there are letters in Auckland from a British house, which prior to the operation of the new regulations purchased several thousand tons of New Zealand butter per annum, stating that, as they cannot do business with this country in the way they want to do it, they arc now securing all their requirements from other countries. The blight improvement in the price and the increase in sales can be attributed to either of the following causes, viz., Germany's increased purchases of foreign butter, or Australian regulation of shipments.
