STOCKS AND SHARES
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE COLONIAL SUGAR RECORD No material change in general investment conditions occurred on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Giltedge issues remained well supported and in restricted supply, while all leading industrials fully maintained their recent strength. Following a reaction to the recent high levels, Colonial Sugars recovered sharply to a record price of £75 ]os yesterday afternoon, a gain of £2 os on the day, and 10s higher than their previous highest level touched last week. Government loans remained at late Tates. with the exception of 1946, 4 per cent, stock, which was secured 7s 6d cheaper at £lO9. Buyers largely predominated throughout the section. Movements in banks were confined to New Zealands and Reserve Banks, both which were firmer. New Zealands, on which the .half-year's dividend announcement is almost due, hardened 3d in three transactions up to 495, at which there was further support. Reserve Banks on sale at JL'6 lis were 6d firmer. In insurance New Zealands and South British were easier, but Nationals had firmer inquiry. Business was done in New Zealands 9d lower at 695. All other dealing was in miscellaneous industrial shares, all of which showed strength. Gains, other than that recorded in/ Colonial Sugars, were also made by British Tobaccos and Northern Roller Mills. Tobaccos, in dealing at 42s and 41s 9d, were 3d dearer at the latter price and Roller Mills were done twice at 325, a rise of Is 6d. All other sales were made at late rates.
