CHURCH DISPUTE

POSITION IN GERMANY DR. MUELLER OPPOSED LONDON, Oct. 21 The Berlin correspondent of the Sunday Times states that the Confessional Synod has declared open war on Dr. Mueller, Bishop of the Keich, by sending a strongly worded Note to the Government proclaiming a state of emergency within the Church owing to violence used against the South German churches. The Note adds that the synod is nominating a council to assume church leadership and calls upon parishes and pastors to obey it and to refuse obedience to Dr. Mueller's nominees. Well-informed circles consider that the Government will send a conciliatory reply to the Note, and probably will dismiss the newlv-appointed Bishop Jaeger because he; used the police against Bavarian churchmen. Dr. Mueller may go on sick leave.
