DECISION TO RETIRE HOSTILITY OF SOCIALISTS CALCUTTA. Oct. 21 Although Gandhi has reaffirmed his decision to retire from tho leadership of the Indian National Congress, he continues to meet with bitter opposition from the Socialist wing of the party. Its spokesman, Massani, at a provincial meeting in Bombay, declared that he and hisi supporters have no confidence in Gandhi's leadership because the Mahatma's ipolicy and programme are impracticable and unacceptable to the majority of the representatives of the Congress. A resolution of confidence in Gandhi appealing to him to reconsider his decision to retire was passed by 82 votes to 13, the Socialists voting against the motioiu.
