OBITUARY
MR. C. B. WESTMACOTT THEATRICAL MANAGER (Received October 22, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 22 The death has occurred of Mr. Charles Babington Westmacott, aged 70, whci retired from the position of general manager of J. C. Williamson, Limited., in January. He was wellknown throughout the theatrical world. Death was due to pneumonia, which developttd after a successful operation.
Mr. Westmacott was born in London and educated at Westminster School. He went to Australia in 18S4 with the idea of becoming a squatter. After two or three years on the land, however, his natural bent for the footlights asserted itself, and he went to Sydney, joining the lai» George Rignold at Her Majesty 's Theatre. Later he joined Williamson, Garner and Musgrove, subsequently playing with Janet Achurch, Charles Kyrle Bellew, Brown Potter, Olga Nethersoll, Charles Cartwright and Bland Holt. A visit to England; followed, and on his return he embarkiid on management of his own. conducting Her Majesty's (Sydney) and the Royal (Sydney and Melbourne). Later Mr. Westmacott was manager for Clarke and Meynell and he toured South Africa as manager for Oscar Asche and Lily Brayton. In 1914 he was aopointed general manager for J. O Williamson, Limited. Mr. Westmaeott's knowledge and experience in theatrical management on the higher scale were considered to be unsurpassed in the Southern Hemisphere.
