FURTHER BAD LUCK
MOLLISONS IN INDIA BOTH FLIERS DEJECTED FAINT HOPE OF VICTORY ALLAHABAD PASSED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received October 22. 7.5 p.m.) LONDON. Oct. 22 Mr. and Mrs. Mollison continue to have bad luck. They lost their way en route from Karachi to Allahabad. They landed at Jubbulpore to check their bearings, but started again immediately. They arrived at Allahabad this morning. At Jubbulpore the Mollisons flew low to ascertain their bearings, which they learnt from a signboard at the railway station. They made a safe landing at Allahabad aerodrome, refuelled and breakfasted. They said they knew they were behind, but they had a sporting chance. They took off perfectly at 9.40 a.m. to fly non-stop to Singapore. The Karachi correspondent of the Daily Express says the Mollisons are the most dejected fliers in the world. Fate snatched victory from their grasp, though they believe they still have a chance. As Mrs. Mollison listened to her husband describing the difficult problems caused by the damaged under-carriage of their machine there were tears in her eyes. ITALIAN FACILITIES COMPETITORS PLEASED FRENCH INTEREST IN RACE LONDON, Oct. 21 All the air race pilots on arrival at Rome expressed grateful appreciation of the Italian arrangements. This pleased the British residents, in view of the silence of the newspapers about the air race, except the "Messagero," which resentfully declared that foreigners were not given sufficient notice to build aeroplanes. Moreover, the petrol regulations favoured British machines. France, though not represented in the race, is following the competitors' fortunes with breathless interest. This is being fostered by pictures and maps in the Sunday evening papers, which are particularly appreciative of the pluck of the Mollisons.
