WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Reports of meetings are as follows: — Gordonton. —Members of the Fairfield Institute were present at a recent meeting and supplied part of the entertainment programme. The president demonstrated the making of lamp shades. Competitions were for an article made from old silk stockings and the prettiest vase of flowers. Ihe roll call was "hints on sewing." Nawtonrotokauri. —A very interesting demonstration of making handbags from crepe paper was given by Mrs. fow, who hlso recited *'lhe Old Ai&id s Prayer." The competitions were for the best arranged tumbler of flowers and for plain and fancy aprons. The roll call was on "'uses for tea leaves." Te Poi. —Demonstrations of making pictures from chocolate papers and of pulf pastry were given by members ot the Tauranga Moana Institute, and a play, "Bright Side Up," by members of the Matamata Institute. A short address on the federation was, given by Mrs. Earle. Competitions were for the best article from one yard of cretonne and a plate of pikelets. Waiterimu. —A husbands' evening was held recently, dancing, songs and recitations being enjoyed. The monthly meeting took the form of a brmg-and-buy day. _______
