PLUNGE INTO RIVER
WOMEN IN MOTOR-CAR ESCAPE FROM INJURY [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] CHKISTCHUKCH, Monday An exciting motor accident occurred at Burwood at the week-end, when, as the result of a collision, a sedan motorcar with two women inside careered into the Kiver Avon and sank almost out of sight. Fortunately, the doors of the car flew open as it settled. down, and tho driver, Miss L. Liggins, and her passenger, Miss G. Wetherall, escaped unharmed. Miss Wetherall swam to the shore, but Miss Liggins, who could not swim, was forced to climb to the top of the car and to wait for assistance. A passing motorist eventually came to Miss Liggins' aid, swimming out to the car and helping her ashore. Tho car was badly damaged, and it took three hours to get it out of the river. The other car involved in the collision suffered only slight damage.
