Nichol, who has been col-' i lector of customs at Napier for the past year, and was previously examining officer at Invercargill, has been ap- ! pointed collector of customs at Dunedin to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr. B. Anderson some months ago. Mr. A. Spencer, president of the Auckland Employers' Association, left by the limited express last evening to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Employers' Federation in Wellington to-morrow. He will be joined by Mr. J. Lowe, who wiil go south this evening. Lieutenant-General Sir Alexander Godley and Lady Godley are passengers from England on the Rangitiki, which is due at _ Auckland to-night. They are on their way to attend the Melbourne Centenary celebrations. A civic reception will be accorded to them at the Town Hall to-morrow. Dr. H. F. McNickle, who has been appointed resident surgical officer at the Wellington Hospital, and Mrs. McNickle will arrive at Auckland bv the Marama from Sydney this marning. Dr. McNickle's last appointment m England was resident surgical officer at the Harlow Wood Orthopaedic Hospital. Mrs. McNickle was formerly Mia Kathleen Bews, of Auckland.
