SWIMMING FACILITIES

CHELTENHAM BEACH BATH LOCAL BODY SYMPATHETIC A hint that the Devonport Borough Council is keeping in mind a scheme for the construction of a swimming bath at Cheltenham Beach was given by the Mayor of Devonport, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, at the North Shore Amateur Swimming Club's prize-giving on Saturday night. The club, which has a membership of several hundreds, has for many years been very active in encouraging swimming in the North Shore districts, and, as its work would be simplified by the use of a bath, it has already approached the Borough Council to provide one at Cheltenham Beach. Addressing the president of the club, Mr. J. F. Langlev, and other members., Mr. Meikle said the Borouch Council was sympathetic toward the proposal, but, through not having sufficient funds, was unable to do anything yet. However, if it continued to receive the help of the club, the council intended to make an effort to provide further accommodation for swimming at Cheltenham Beach worthy of the borough.
