NEW BAPTIST PASTOR
WELCOME AT TABERNACLE There was a large and enthusiastic attendance at a welcome given on Thursday night to the Rev. Dr. Alexander Hodge, who recently arrived from England to assume the position of pastor of the Auckland Baptist Tabernacle. Dr. J. >T. North presided, and associated with him were the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, Mr. Barry, who gave an address on behait of the church, the Rev. J. Laird, presi- , dent of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, the Rev. E. D. Patchett, president of the Council of Christian y on * gregations, and' Mr. J. 0. Saunders, representing the Bible Training Institute. „ , The Mayor welcomed Dr. Horlge on behalf of the citizens of Auckland, and Mr. Patchett on behalf of. all the city churches. . A number of letters from leaders or the Baptist Church in England, tcstitying to the fine work accomplished of Dr. Hodge, were read by Mr. S. i. Page. Dr. Hodge made an appeal tor strong co-operation on the part of the church that he might make the most of his opportunity in the Dominion. Dr. Hodge will be inducted by UrNorth to-morrow morning.
