SOUTH ISLAND HORSES z ayrmont chimes fit TEAM OF THREE FROM NELSON The arrival yesterday of the South Island horses, Avrniont Chimes, Travis, trackless and Guymond, and the Hawera horse Smooger. has quickened interest in the Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting, which opens at Alexandra Park, Epsom, to-morrow, and concludes on Monday. Ayrmont Chimes, one of Ihe main fancies for the Jcllicoe and Electric Handicaps, is under the enre of A. Bryce, who will drive him, the usual pilot, J. Bryce, jun., having engagements at, Greymouth on Saturday and Oflmaru or. Monday. Ayrmont Chimes, who is making his second visit to Auckland, looks in fine order and has derived much benefit from racing at Addington in August, when he put up a good performance to finish second to the IS'ew Zealand Trotting Cup favourite Indianapolis, in the National Handicap. L. F. Berkett has his team well forward, and they are none the worse for their trip from Nelson. Travis has twice previously visited Epsom, and although be has not raced for some considerable time should be capable of running creditable races, hut his prospects will he better if the track is firm. Guymond. a half-brother to Raydus, is a useful pacer, while the double-gaited Wrackless has won his races as a trotter, although at Hawera he raced promising'y at the pacing gait. J. E. Smith has Smooger looking in nice order in spite of tho fact that his preparation was interrupted some time ago through a fall on the road at Hawera. Although Smooger has gained place-monev on his previous visits to Auckland, and has scored on the country circuit, he has yet to win at Epsom. Two other visitors, Captain Bolt and Wiriwhata have been at headquarters since the Waikato meeting, and have done well, while tho Whangarei pacer Bed Hope, who arrived on Monday, bears a well-seasoned condition. The win and place betting system will be used at the meeting. The firsit race to-morrow starts at 12 o'clock.
