RODNEY COUNTY

WILLOWS IN STREAM CLEARING BY RELIEF LABOUR [ FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WARKWORTH, Thursday A letter from the Lands and Survey Department, suggesting that the Kourawhero stream should be cleared of willows by relief labour, was read at the monthly meeting of the Rodney County Council last night. It was reported that the Public Works Department at Whangarei was now investigating the matter with a view to formulating a scheme. A letter was received from the Main Highways Board notifying that a subsidy of £3 for £1 would be paid on work done in preparation for the tarsealing of the main highway. Members of the council spoke appreciatively of the board's action. The engineer reported that work was proceeding on the large slip alt. Waiteatei Bluff, on the mam road from Wellsford to the Pakiri Block, where a slip of some 400 yards of stone came down following heavy rains several weeks ago. Since then the road had been blocked.
