OLD MAN'S DEATH

MURDER CHARGE FAILS WOMAN ACQUITTED SYDNEY, Oct. 14 A jury yesterday returned a verdict of not guilty in the case of Mrs. Charlotte Fowler, aged 58, who was charged with murdering Mr. John Ryan at Barry, near Bathurst. Accused was discharged. Mr. John Ryan, aged 79, a retired farmer, was found dead on June 11. His body was in a sitting posture in an armchair in an isolated cottage, where he had lived by himself on his son's property. He had been shot in the head. The police ascertained that Mr. Ryan formerly was a wealthy man. He sold a large portion of his property to his two sons at a nominal figure, but the residue of the property disappeared in some unaccountable way. The bullet wound disclosed .that he was shot at fairly close range, possibly while he was asleep.
