ENGINE DERAILED

FRONT WHEELS LEAVE LINE MISHAP NEAR AVONDALE The two front pairs of wheels of the locomotive of the train that left Aucki land at 2.28 p.m. yesterday for Siran- . | son, left the rails between the Avonaale I and St. George's Street stations at about 3.30 p.m., and caused a delay to the train of about three-quarters of aft hour. None of the carriages ef the train, which was a passenger one, was derailed,-however, and no one was injured. 5 . . The mishap occurred at the St. Jude Street crossing. The engine passed over the cattle-stop at the far side, and continued for about another 100 yards, when it was brought to a standstill. Very little damage was done to the, track. * , The derailed wheels wen; replaced on the line, and the engine continued its journey shortly before 4.30 p.m. The suburban trains on the north line were delayed for varying periods until about 6 p.m., but the service then returned to normal.
