SYDNEY SALES RESUMED SOME SORTS 5 PER CENT UP. KEENNESS OF COMPETITION (Received October 15, 9.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 15 The Sydney wool sales were resumed to-day, when 8906 bales were offered and 7875 were sold. Also 1029 bales were sold privately. There was keen competition from Yorkshire for suitable wools and pood support from Japan and tho Continent. Compared with the closing rates in Sydney at the end of September, well-grown fleece wools and bulky skirtings ruled ill sellers' favour and were occasionally 5 per cent higher. Average descriptions remained firm. Good clearances were effected. Greasy Merino sold to for 33 bales from Narrandera. SOUTH AFRICAN WOOL GERMAN BARTER PLAN NEGOTIATIONS ABORTIVE CAPETOWN, Oct. 14 General J. C. G. Kemp, Minister of Agriculture, states that negotiations with Germany regarding the latter's proposals for. the bartering of South African wool for German goods have failed. The Minister adds? that South African business circles are hostile to the bar- - tering plan. They believe that attempts to find a substitute for wool will fail and that Germany,will lie forced to buy the raw material.
