TRACES OF GOLD
DISCOVERY AT WHATAWHATA TRIAL SHAFT TO BE SUNK [from our owx correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday A sample of stone found on tho Waikato Land Settlement Society's farm property at Whatawliata recently was submitted to the Thames School of Mines for assay. A report has been received by the honorary manager of the society, Mr. D. V. Bryant, stating there was a certain amount of gold and silver in the sample, but not sufficient to warrant mining operations. The diviner employed by Mr. Bryant was so insistent that gold existed 10ft. below the level of tho ground from which the sample was taken, however, that he proposes sinking an exploratory shaft to ascertain whether the gold is present in sufficient quantities to justify a miner's licence being obtained.
