NEW BISHOP OF NELSON
CANON W. G. MILLIARD ARRIVAL AT WELLINGTON [BY TEI<F.GKAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON, Monday To take up his duties as Bishop of Nelson. Canon W. G. Hilliard arrived at Wellington by tho Monowai from Sydnev this afternoon. He will bo consecrated at Nelson on Sunday week .by tho Primate of New Zealand, Archbishop Averill, the Archbishop of Sydney, Dr. Mowll, and other prelates. Canon Hilliard was born in Sydney and educated at a high school and tho university there. He later taught m State high schools. In 1911 he was "ordained by the late Archbishop W right, of "Sydney, and subsequently he had charge of important parishes in the Sydney diocese. Six years ago he became headmaster of Trinity Grammar School, Dulwich Hill. He was also a canon of St. Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney. He is a past deputy-grand master of the Masonic liodge in New South \\ ales, and is keenly interested in cricket. • As evidence of the popularity oi Canon Hilliard, tho Premier of New South Wales, Mr. B. S. Stevens, caused a Sydnev Harbour Trust launch to be placed at the disposal of 400 schoolboys, who followed the Monowai to Sydney Heads, cheering the new bishop.
