Sarazen reduced Bolger's lead by three in the third round, and after a poor start in the final round played amazing golf. He secured an eagle and three birdies at successive holes. He needed birdies at the last two holes to beat Bolger, but was not equal to the task, taking three putts on each,green. Sarazen's 68 is the official course record. Bolger's total of 283 is a record for the Australian open championship, beating Kirkwood's 290 in 1920. Kirkwood was erratic with his drives and pushed many into the rough. But he played very steadily in the final round. Spence was a model of consistency as illustrated by his scores. Ferrier's was the best score of the amateurs. Bolger for his victory in the open championship yesterday, said, he had never expected to have to beat the record when he entered. Bolger, and possibly Spence, should be sent abroad for big contests. , GAME IN BRITAIN PROFESSIONAL TOURNEY E. WHITCOMBE'S WIN (Received October 14, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 13 The golf tournament at Walton Heath for professionals was won by E. Whitcombe with third and fourth rounds of 68 and 77, making his aggregate 283. He did his first and second rounds in 69 each. The runner-up was Busson, 74, 73, followed by Adams. 70. 73; Hodgson, 73,-71; King, 70, 75; Denny, 74, 74. Others include C. Whitcombe, 73, 74; Henry Cotton (open champion), 73, 78; Davies, 72, 73; Ward, 72, 80; Alliss, 74, 78; Padgham, 73, 75; Seymour, 73, 80; R. Whitcombe, 78, 76; Duncan, 74, 78; Mitchell, 77, 74. Whitcombe's first three rounds, 69, 69, 68, all broke the course records. He held a'lead of 10 strokes over the field at this point and took matters easily. His final 77 and his aggregate of 283 for the 72 holes equals Sarazen's record in the British open championship of 1932 and the same score by Cotton in the British open this year.
