CROQUET OPENING
TAKAPUNA CLUB The Takapuna Croquet Club lawns were officially opened for the season on Saturday afternoon in perfect weather conditions. Mr. W. H. Nagle, on behalf of Mrs. Nagle, president of the club, welcomed the guests, and introduced Mr. J. W. Williamson, vicepresident. who declared the lawns open. The first ball was played by Mrs. Williamson, also n vice-president of the club. Representative players were present from the Stanley Bay Croquet Club, the North Shore Croquet Club and the Devonport Croquet Club. Afternoon tea was served in the bowling club pavilion, where the long tables were decorated with Iceland poppies in shades of yellow and white, the club colours. During the tea, intervals short speeches were made by Mr. Nagle, Mr. J. W. Williamson, Mr. F. Amodeo and Mr. T. Hanna. The members of the Takapuna Bowling Club, who play on the adjoining grounds, were guests at afternoon tea. Among those present were: —Mrs. W. H. Nagle, Mrs. J. W. Williamson, Mrs. A. Bishop, Mrs. F. Amodeo, Mrs. R. Johns,ton, Mrs. P. O'Halloran, Mrs. G. Cooper, Mrs. Gilroy, Mrs. Knight, Mrs. Bavage, Mrs. W. H. Taylor, Mrs. Robin, Mrs. Audley, Mrs. W. Lawrence, Mrs, G. Dunlop, Mrs. H. H. Bach, Mrs. W. Leiherby, Mrs. L. C. Halford, Mrs. Hart Smith, Mrs. Marsland, Mrs. C. Black, Mrs. Ashwin, Mrs. Swan, Mrs. Seaton. Mrs. W. Runciman, Mrs. W. F. M. Maclean, Mrs. Broughton, Mrs. J. Nowell, Mrs. Veale, Mrs. Lewins. Mrs. L. Cusworth, Mrs. Gittos Mrs. Stevenson. Miss Friend, Miss Rowe, Miss Hughes. In the progressive tournament the winners wore Mrs. P. O'Halloran (A grade), Mrs. Swan (B grade) and Mrs. R. Johnston (hidden nun>b?r>. Mrs. Dunlop was the winner of the ladder croquet competition.
