BUILDING NEW HOUSES
STIMULUS OF SUBSIDY WORK COSTING £813,000 SUM OF £63,800 FROM BOARD [BY TKLF.GRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] "WELLINGTON, Friday Very satisfactory results are attending the Unemployment Board's now house-building subsidy scheniG, and the value of work covered by the applications received since July, when the scheme was introduced, is now approaching £1,000,000. The Hon. J. A. Young, actingMinister of Employment, said to-day that applications for work to the value of £813,000 had been approved. As a large amount of this would be spent in wages, the value of building work as a labour absorption scheme was obvious. Those applications which had not been approved, and which consequently would not carry the subsidy, did not come within the scope of the scheme, or related to works which the board had reason to believe would proceed in any case. . The total amount of the subsidy approved to date under this scheme was £63,800.
