SHORTAGE OF BANANAS

TOMATOES SELL CHEAPLY Conditions remained dull at the City Markets yesterday, apples, which were in very heavy supply, being especially hard to quit. There was only a fair demand for oranges, which sold at late rates, while lemons were still slow. A temporary shortage of ripe bananas resulted in prices rising. Ho.thoase tomatoes sold at low rates on account of keen competition from Island tomatoes, which were vary plentiful. A fresh shipment of Californian grapes arrived by the Monterey in good condition, while there was also a small consignment of pommegranates. There was a heavy supply of carrots, parsnips, celery and southern potatoes, while new potatoes, green peas, beans, asparagus, lettuce and beet also wore plentiful. There was a fair demand.
