The weather report and forecast for 1 New Zealand issued last evening by the Government meteorologist was as - follows: —A westerly depression of slight intensity is crossing the Dominion. The line of lowest pressure this afternoon was crossing the South Island. Indications are for strong flest J to north-west winds a|; first north 0 f 1 Greymouth and Akaroa a-nd reaching gale force in places; moderate to strong southerlies thence southward and extending northward over most of the Dominion during the next 24 hours. Seas rough in Cook and Foveaux Strait areas and rising on the east coast of the South Island; elsewhere moderate. 3'n the eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong north-westerly winds in the northern portion, but a change to southerlies is advancing from the south. Seas rather rough. The weather will bo rather unsettled with scattered train in western and southern district# and extending gradually northward over eastern districts, but improvise later on the west coast of the South'Island.
