FIRE BRIGADES HOAXED
TWO FALSE ALARMS CALL BOXES SMASHED Two malicious false alarms last night caused both the Eemuera and Parnell fire brigades to leave their stations. In both cases the call-boxes were smashed and the brigadesmen were faced with the necessity of restoring them to working order, as well as having the inconvenience of responding to the calls. The calls were made within half-an-hour of each other. The first was to the corner of Mount St. John Avenue and Belvedere Road, Epsom, and the second was to the corner of Orakei tind Manawa Roads, Remuera. In neither case was there any circumstances warranting a call.
As the points are a considerable distance apart, it is surmised that the offender deliberately drove in a motorcar from one spot to the other.
